CoolUnisinos: Mobile Computing in Unisinos - Ganhador do Grant HP Mobile Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative - Higher Education Edition - Latin American Region

The general goal of the project is to introduce the mobile computing technology in all routines of the Unisinos campus. This general vision is called CoolUnisinos. We are interested in applying the ideas of the HP CoolTown Project (http://www.cooltown.com/cooltown/index.asp) to create several mobile services at our campus. CoolUnisinos will create a dynamic global vision of the university based on mobile and distributed computing. Initially we will introduce mobile computing in the activities of graduate program of reference (GRefe) at Computer Engineering School. The professors of the learning programs will be stimulated to use tablets and iPAQs in their practices. We are interested in possible applications of mobile computing in the teaching at several GRefe knowledge areas. After this step, we will orient our attention to peripheral communities. The project will support the mobile computing in the other computer schools (Computer Science and Information System Schools). Besides, we will install a wireless infrastructure in the library and support mobile services, like book finder. This step will amplify and diversify the community of users. Finally, we intend to extend the mobile technology to all the Unisinos (CoolUnisinos). In 2003 was created in Unisinos a research group interested in mobile computing (Mobile Computing Research Group - MobiCom Group). The creation of MobiCom was based on a partnership between Unisinos and the HP Computers of Brazil (Research & Development). The group works at Mobile Computing Lab (MobiLab) that is located in the building of the Computer Engineering School. MobiCom was using the Holoparadigm (http://www.inf.unisinos.br/~holo) to create a new platform for the development of mobile computing systems. The project was created like a partner between the MobiCom and the Engineering School. CoolUnisinos gained "HP Mobile Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative - Higher Education Edition - Latin American Region" in October 2004.. Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa.
